Following a string of celebrations inspired by the Canadian rapper’s iconic Hotline Bling video – most famously at UEFA EURO 2016 – the Les Bleus attacking midfielder traded hip-hop for gaming, showing off his latest tribute after scoring his second goal at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

This time, he drew inspiration from the “Take the L” dance in the video game Fortnite. The move consists of forming an “L” (for “loser”) with your right hand while hopping from one foot to the other in quick succession in an act of playful mockery. And that is exactly what the Macon native did after opening the scoring with a penalty against Jorge Sampaoli’s Albiceleste.

Les Bleus were awarded the spot kick thanks to a dazzling display of talent from Kylian Mbappe, who was brought down in the box by Marcos Rojo following an impressive 60-metre run. Griezmann’s goal, netted in the 13th minute, set the stage for an epic encounter – one of the most thrilling round-of-16 ties in the tournament’s history – which culminated in a 4-3 victory for France.
